Apple iPhone cheaper by $200.

San Francisco: Apple Inc.’s price cut of its iPhone and new lineup of iPod players are expected to ring in healthy holiday sales, but Wall Street investors accustomed to Apple’s meaty profit margins appear a bit disappointed.

Apple stock dropped more than 5 percent after the price cut was announced Wednesday, closing at $136.76, down $7.40. In extended trading, the share price fell another $1.01.

Meanwhile, gadget enthusiasts who snapped up the ballyhooed iPhone before Wednesday are coping with a bitter aftertaste now that it is $200 cheaper within 10 weeks of its introduction.

The price cut, from $599 to $399 for the 8-gigabyte iPhone, immediately set off a debate on online tech forums between early adopters, who said paying a premium price came with the territory, and those who said they felt burned.

Service Packs for Vista n Win XP from Microsoft

Windows Vista users can expect Microsoft to release SP1 in the first quarter of next year.

According to David Zipkin, senior product manager for Microsoft. SP1 for Vista wont contain any new features but only updates strictly to fix bugs and enhance the performance, reliability and application compatibility of Vista.

And some good news for Win XP users too, XP also will get another refresher in the next few weeks when Microsoft releases the third service pack for the soon-to-be outdated OS to customers and partners. Windows XP SP3 will be the last service pack update for XP, and will include previously released updates as well as a small number of new fixes. It shouldn’t dramatically alter the XP experience, according to Microsoft.

Chances of Iphone working anywhere

Hackers this week have broken iPhone’s SIM lock, enabling iPhone to be used on any compatible GSM carrier.

The SIM unlocking process, until now, has required disassembling iPhone and using a soldering iron to bypass parts of iPhone’s SIM verification system. However, the latest method employes purely software. In addition, it unlocks iPhone’s firmware, permitting the user to enable data services on providers other than AT&T. Much of the credit has gone to George Hotz, a 17 year old that posted the first videos and details of the breakthrough. However, Hotz’s process is not to be confused with newer, software-only unlocks. That credit goes to UniquePhones, a company that has promised to be first-to-market with a full unlocking procedure for months.

Simpsons Coming to your Consoles

Electronic Arts (EA) has announced the upcoming release of ‘The Simpsons Game,’ a new video game based on the hit television series.The company said that ‘The Simpsons Game,’ which has been created in partnership with Gracie Films and Twentieth Century Fox, is not based on the upcoming Simpsons movie, but is an original story from writers who create the TV program. 
 EA said the action-comedy would caste the entire voice cast from the TV show, who would reprise their roles for the game.

Novell, Red Hat War Gets Uglier

What happens when one of Red Hat’s friends (Novell) befriends its so called enemy (Microsoft), they have a war.

The back-and-forth rhetoric between Linux companies Red Hat and Novell has reached a new intensity, with top executives lobbing verbal grenades at each other over Novell’s decision last year to enter into a cooperation agreement with Microsoft.

“The latest row began when Mark Webbink, Red Hat’s corporate counsel, wrote a magazine article comparing the Novell-Microsoft deal to then-British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s appeasement of Hitler prior to World War II. Yay my new connection

After lots of thinking for 15 minutes , and with the Sify guy in front of me who knew nothing more than the price and speed of the plan (and he was even smiling for getting a new sify scapegoat). I, having no other option signed on the dotted line and gave him the cheque of Rs. 661.

Then after a day some other fellow who knew nothing but where to put the ip addresses n all came and made the connection. I was happy he was happy.

After he went i tried connecting in the afternoon but it didnt connect, then it dawned on me that mine is a night plan. That night just when the clock striked 10 i pressed the login button and even then i couldnt connect because it wasnt detecting my antivirus software and it wanted me to install some antivirus that they provide. I tried many times but that software wont budge, i remembered Priyam warning me about sify’s service but i had to call the sify’s call centre . I called and i didnt hear any south indian accent , my problem was solved in just 5 minutes and then i forgot everything (Preshit asked me to update u all about my connection).

Im getting a constant 30 kBps download speed and 25 kBps upload speed.

In the last 4 days i have downloaded 4 movies and some episodes of Simpsons and Southpark .

Im happy with sify’s service till now, and hope i wont have any problem.

License to kill

Wish i had a license to kill. Right now i want to kill my cableguy (remaining i’ll kill when the need arises ) .

The thing is here at my place there are 3 ISP’s

1) Net9 (local)

2) Hathway

3) Sify

I used net 9’s service for almost a year, only to find out that their service is the worst .

I thought of Hathway, but according to Preshit they are also not good .

But i was getting a good night unlimited plan from them. But nothing happens in my life without hurdles. Here comes my stupid cableguy, for some strange personal grudge against Hathway he’s not letting them put cable for my connection. WTH, what should i tell this dumbhead.

Now i have no other option but to take sify’s night plan which is Rs.260 more than that Hathway’s plan.

The plan is 256 kbps unlimited from 10 pm – 8 am everynight for Rs.661 everymonth

P.S – even a learners license will be cool for me coz i can kill him in 1 go
